I am looking for a laptop to take with me to college and need some help finding the perfect fit.

Essentials:
-dual-core processor, at least 2.4gHz but preferably something more like 2.8
-At least 2gb RAM installed, max 4gb
-fast Wifi, Bluetooth
-DVD burning. Blu-Ray not necessary, but I’ll take it if it has it
-Sleek design – not Macbook Air thin, but not chunky or unnecessarily extravagant. Something simple-looking but ergonomically sound. Examples: Alienware it too chunky, VAIO is too extravagant. I like the Tosbiba Tecra designs that are square and simple.

Would be nice:
-Fingerprint recognition for security
-Not Dell, Mac or Gateway. HP, or Toshiba I like, but I’m willing to branch out some. If Dell and Gateway problems are myths, let me know, but I definitely want to keep it PC.

Don’t care:
-OS. Probably putting tinyXP on it as soon as I get it anyway, unless someone/thing convinces me otherwise.
-Hard drive: not a huge deal for me. I don’t like to store much on my PC. 160gb would be fine. Solid state would be great but not necessarily essential.
-Screen size: I have to be able to see it, and It has to be portable. Other than that, its not a huge deal.

I have a built in fingerprint reader (Toshiba Satellite A205) and Vista. I would like to be able to use the fingerprint reader instead of entering passwords for websites in internet explorer. Any ideas?

This might be a bit long of info but I think you’ll need it to help me so bare with me please. I’ve been trying a few different Antivirus/spyware programs lately, and each time I decide to try a new one I always uninstall the other. Lastely I had Kaspersky and some other spyware software installed, then I turned on automatic updates for windows. Well for some reason it signaled Windows license validation (a message appeared saying an unauthorized change was made to windows) which wouldnt validate, not sure why because Vista is preinstalled on my Toshiba satellite. and I couldnt access my control panel or anything, only IE. Finally after starting in safe mode I was able to access the controls and do a system restore, which fixed my inability to access windows controls. After doing this a bunch of problems starting happening (Norton, although previously uninstalled, was back on there and causing my internet to not work) and now Im trying to reinstall Kaspersky trial again, and now Spybot search and destroy (previously uninstalled) is back on the add/remove programs and I cannot uninstall with add/remove programs. Kaspersky will not let me install without removing it first. When I try to uninstall it says some file "Spybot – Search & Destroy\unins000.msg" is missing. Please correct the problem or obtain a new copy of the program.

So my question, how can I uninstall Spybot? Im afraid that if I reinstall it to uninstall it, either I will have problems installing or it will give me two duplicate programs to uninstall and I will not get anywhere. Help!! Thanks

I have Toshiba Laptop Satellite A55 model. Recently, i update my RAM and Hard Disk, but after that my system clock is always late.
I searched the problem in Internet then i found that I have to update clock timing in BIOS CMOS setting ,but i don’t know how to go to BIOS setting in my laptop. Please help me.
I already tried by Double click the clock, and I update the clock time. But after some time again clock is late ?

The toshiba qosimo with a fingerprint reader and the bio password? Is it possible to get around that? Right when i start the pc up it asks for either a fingerprint or a code…and yes its legal.

….Windows Vista rejects wireless internet connections that we try to connect it to. It’s being run on a Toshiba laptop that supports newer technology such as fingerprint security (that supposedly requires Vista to function). If I were to uninstall Vista and Install XP would everything but the "newer technology" function properly?
