Why am I struggling to get a part-time job? everywhere I apply, they never call me back and no interview, why?

Right now I am very confused and frustrated as to why I never get a phone call back and no interview whenever I apply somewhere. I don’t know which one to blame, or maybe I should blame all of them, or one of them more than the others. Here are the reasons why I believe I am struggling to get a part-time, heck, I can’t even get an interview or a phone call back once I submit an application.
Anyway, here are the reasons that I feel I am struggling to get a job: A.) The horrible economy, recession. B.) I was fired from my last job for attendence reasons, however, they said I was welcome to go back and re-apply there within 6 months, and it has been more than a year now, but I don’t want to work there again. The reason why I had bad attendence there was because I had to call in many times to say I could not make it, because the work schedule they gave me conflicted with my school schedule. Last, C.) I have limited work experience, I have only had 1 real job in my whole life, it was at Disneyland, I bussed tables, and cleaned, washed dishes, etc. I was a Busser/Steward.
Disneyland was my second job, and I consider it to be my only job.
My first job was Abercrombie and Fitch, but I only worked there 1 day, the reason why is because they never gave me any work hours or shifts, everytime I entered the place to punch in, or clock in, to print out my work schedule, I always had 0 hours. I asked my Supervisor as to why I was not getting any hours, and she told me because the company place was going through a transition phase at the time.
Also another reason is because, I recently realized this, because before I thought that could not be a reason why, but now I think it was a reason why I did not get any working hours or shifts. The reason why is because the person who hired me was a Manager that was on her last day of duty there, she was also the person who interviewed me.
Anyway, I at least got 1 paycheck from Abercrombie and Fitch.
Since I am inexperienced when it comes to having a job, and I was fired from my last job, what should I write down on job applications?
I am only looking for part-time work, I am 21, in community college, so I need a job that can give me a flexible work schedule.

how do you deal with nosey people at the work place?

there are a couple people where i work that are really nosey. they keep track on when you come and go and even when you take vacation. we do not punch a time clock, we do it electronically. they look at everyones time and mention it to the supervisor when they accually come and go. they mention to me when i come and go. how should i deal with them. they look on the internet and find ouit anything they can about you. i want to tell them to mind there own business and would not mind a few more choice words at them. i just want to get along with people but they make it very hard.

Re-classed from exempt to non-exempt for new duties.?

I ‘ve been with my company for 4 years now. We have a non arrears (exempt) and arrears (exempt) payclass schedule. Because arrears is always 1 week behind I’m told, I got into this situation:

Working as a supervisor, paycheck on 6/15/07, was .65/hour but EXEMPT, 10.00 (usual semi monthly amount)

Effective 6/25/07 I was NON-EXEMPT and began punching the clock again for my new position as a patient account specialist.

Paycheck received on 6/29/07 was for 6.00 (half of the usual semi-monthly amount) as I only got paid for 5 days and am now back in the arrears pay group.

I understand the difference between exempt and non-exempt, what I don’t understand is how I only got paid 5 days because of where the effective date of my new pay class, the payroll dates and everything falls. Can you take a look at this and explain to me like a dummy?

Thanks.

Terminated on grounds of misgross conduct.Unemployment Benefits?

I was told this morning that i had to leave work due to being terminated for "misgross conduct" (as my supervisor stated) literally right after clocking in to work for my shift! I didn’t do anything false or wrong and i let them know this. I asked my former supervisor if at least to stay and work my shift for the day. I was told I couldn’t, but that she would keep me clocked in for 3 hours before she would clock me out of the shift for today. I guess she were trying to be nice or something. She told me to speak with the HR manager about all of this being that I felt that I was being wrongly accused and unfairly terminated. I asked if they were going to give me a termination letter. I was told that I would be and would receive it in the mail. I was never asked to sign any documents before being asked to leave and told I was terminated.

I was told that they suspect that some of my punch corrections for clocking in at work were incorrect times that i put in compared to the time they claim to have kept on me. They claim I am documenting a few minutes time difference into the time i arrive to work versus when they claim i arrive. I was told by my former supervisor that if my shift starts at 6:00am and I am waiting at the door to be let in ( and it’s 6:00am or 6:05am, etc) by a manager before i can clock in, if i make it to the time clock past 6:07am then I am allowed to put in punch corrections forms (which has to be signed off on by a supervisor) to correct my time and to avoid being falsely documented as tardy. I have had issues with tardiness in the past months ( not recently, but was still on probation for it) and had been on probation because they did not inform me from day one of starting the job last year that if i had to wait to be let in to work that i had the right to correct the time difference between waiting and when i actually arrived to the work site using a punch correction form. I have so many tardies on my record that were actually due to their careless attitude about how long it takes them to let employees in at the door.

I honestly feel like the job was looking for an excuse to terminate me. I was on probation for tardiness. However, since I have been on time for the past month or two…they could not terminate me on the grounds of failed attendance.

There were also discrepancies between the information I was eventually told in reference to what time an employee is actually considered tardy on their clock. My former supervisor told me I am considered tardy after 6:07am, whereas I heard another supervisor (one higher in rank than my former supervisor) state to other employees that it is after 6:05am that an employee is considered tardy. For months I did not know this until before my final warning from hear say that 6:05am was the cut off time for tardiness and that was one of the reasons why I was being documented as late so often, is because i thought the cut off was 6:07am. The other reason I was being documented as being late so often is because I did not know that I had the right and option to have my clock in times corrected by filling out a punch correction form.

So many days i and other employees have had to wait outside before we could be let in the work site. The supervisors always took their good old time making their way up to the door to let employees in. I’d show up a minutes difference at times between other employees that were being let in, however…I was still considered on time if i knew beforehand that i had the right to have my clock in times correctly documented. I reported to my former supervisor about having to wait long periods of time to be let in the building before i could ever clock in. That’s when i was informed of my right to use punch correction forms to correct my times. The punch correction forms always have to be signed off by a superior (a supervisor, manager, etc). So how can my punch corrections be suspected of being incorrect due to my supposed false information of what time i arrived to work??? I made sure to put in punch corrections when validated because of being on probation and the final warning I was given. I’m an honest person and have integrity as an employee. I shouldn’t have been on probation, let alone final warning if they had informed me of cut off time for tardiness and my rights to fill out punch corrections when having to wait a million years on managers to let me into the building in the morning.

For the past 2 months I had been on time and had vastly improved my attendance in regards to not being tardy. I never missed days at work from day one of working there. I also did good work as an employee, and was definitely team player…i always did well in job performance and worked well with others. I usually got along with everyone at work as well. So many other employees call out and miss days of work frequently and most other employees when tardy are usually 30-40 minutes late! I’ve never been
What are my full rights? Am I able to apply for unemployment without any complications? I haven’t told my husband about being terminated this morning because I fear he will become upset and will want to neglect or divorce me… or that he may become verbally and physically aggressive with me again again out of stress over finances. It’s hard out here with finding new employment in time when needed. I need to be able to survive.

Should I work off the clock?

I have been working for the area school in the lunchroom. My supervisor wants perfection, in the area of cleaning and getting everything spotless at the end of the day. I am new there and it takes me longer to get it all spotless, to her specifications. Now she wants me to punch out and go finish my job, which sometime takes another 15 to 20 min. What should I do?
We do spot clean after each grade go thru the line there’s a 10 min break between classes Also there isn’t time to start cleaning earlier after tearing down the serve line. I’m an hourly paid worker you must be on "salary" which you must stay over and work the needed time

Can you legally be written up at work while off the clock?

Employee was on company property smoking a cigarette less than 50 ft. from building against company policy. But was not on company time, simply reentered property to talk to supervisor. Please provide law if possible, many people might be falsely written up for this and other matters. Thank you!
This is non-union and wish to know if there is a labor law for or against disciplinary action when an employee is off the clock.

Is it illegal for employers to not give employees a copy of their work hours?

At my friends job they do not use time clocks. They are given a shhet at the end of the week to sign. Often the supervisor sends their time in with the employees signing for their time. Me friend’s pay is always short. He’s suspects his boss of stealing money.

Does an employer have the right to keep your time card "Locked Up" so you can not clock in or out?

My Supervisor is on another "power trip", he suddenly decides that employees must be taking their time cards home at the end of the work day, so he has started to "Lock Up" the time cards shortly after the beginning of the shift.

Now, If you do not have your card "with you" it is unavailable for you to clock in and out at lunch time, as well as when you clock out at the end of the day!

Last night I clocked in, but he locked up the time cards after I did so I had no way to clock out for lunch, or clock in upon my return. I also had no way to clock out at the end of the day. I submitted a time keeping written record for these actions, but I fear my supervisor will try to give me discipline for not using my time card.

How do I deal with this "annal retentive" supervisor on his power trip? And what are my options if he tries to deny me my pay for last night’s work?

Is it legal to not pay employee for the time they actually work?

If you work for a company where your hours are 8-5 M-F with an hour lunch, is it legal for them to not pay you if you clock in early for your shift? Is it legal for them to deduct a full hour from your pay for lunch if you don’t take a full hour? I live and work in Columbus, OH. I was told by my supervisor that no matter what you get charged for an hour lunch. I was also told that they view clocking in early as unapproved overtime and therefore do not pay it.
Until I noticed problems this information was not given to me.
