Start/Programs disappeared?

My wife has a Windows XP Pro SP2 PC, and last night she was just browsing, everything was fine, when suddenly her PC stop respondig, so she rebooted, and her Start/My Computer, Start/Control Panel, Start/Programs, her D drive, where she had stored pictures and other stuff, all had disappered. Just blank space. She still can open Windows Explorer and see her C drive, but it’s somewhat weird, because it shows her C drive below the RecycleBin and Network Places, not below the A drive where it used to show. Her clock at the bottom right is moved to the left, and now shows VIRUS ALERT. There was a what appeared to be a Spyware program wanting to run, called PC Doctor 2008 or something like that, so I tried to go to the Microsoft website and tried running Windows Live OneCare, but as soon as I tried running the scan, it kept going back to the PC Doctor 2008 wanting to run a scan. So now I can’t access System Restore, can’t access Control Panel to Remove programs. Any ideas? Thanks.

PLEASE HELP ME! This stupid virus attacked my computer: "System Security 2009". I want to shoot myself.?

I’ve tried almost EVERYTHING! But I don’t know how to get rid of this damn thing!

The only thing I am allowed to do is access the internet.

I’ve tried: Deleting it from control panel, putting my computer in safe mode, downloading the "System Security Remover", and following step my step instructions to remove it.

WHAT DO I DO?! I need to get rid of this ASAP! I have a project to be working on, and I CANNOT work on it with this stupid virus.

PLEASE HELP ME! I need information that is GUARANTEED to work!

*10 points to best answer :)

REMEMBER: I am not able to access control panel, or even put my computer on safe mode.

I even have Verizon Internet Suite and Malwarebytes, but System Security 2009 has blocked it.

No Access to Hard Drive on brand new PC?

I recently purchased, and took delivery of a new Desktop computer running Windows Vista Home Professional 64 bit version.

While attempting to change a file attribure. A pop-up appeared and I was informed by my PC that I did not have the permissions to perform that action. I cancelled out of the pop-up, and another pop-up appeared informing me to restart my PC. I did.

Upon restart, when selecting to view the C:\ drive, the following error was retrieved

"Location is not available

C:\ is not accessible

Access is denied"

I then followed the Microsft Help’s instructions to ‘Take Ownership’, and the following error was retrieved

"Windows Security

Can’t open access control editor. Access is denied"

As I’ve had the PC for only a few days and was still setting it up – I have no System Restore points.

So……I would like to regain access to my C: Drive

Can anyone help?

How can you use access control measures in ERP’s? Do any exist?

My question primarily has to do with whether access control measures exist in Enterprise Resource Planning systems? If they don’t or haven’t been successfully implemented, how can a company improve their access control? TELL ME ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH ACCESS CONTROL IN ERP’S!!!! PLEASE.

My Admin account on XP has lost admin access?

I have Windows XP with an Admin username/password.

This admin profile has lost all admin access and i can’t access control panel etc due to "System restrictions".

I haev ran a norton scan which found nothing.

I can’t system restore as i don’t have access and i can’t access the user config tool as i don’t have access.

Short of formatting the drive is there anything else i can do?

Does anyone know a malware or virus i can manually remove which would cause this…

Any help would be gratefully accepted….

Hayley
Hi Scott…i am doing pretty much everything in safe mode..

I can log on both normally and in safe mode using administrator, but don’t have access to do anything…H
Thanks for all your answers. I found out that it was a virus…and yes i was getting that ATL.dll was missing.

I ran a program called combofix and reinstalled the DLL (downloaded from the web)

I have to create a new user account with Admin access after this, but everything is fine now.

on my network i cant print to d network printer. opening control panel for the client pc is impossible. why???

i cant print to the network printer which is connected to a pc serving as a server. To make it more complicated, i cant access the control panel of the client pcs to check the printer settings. But i can access other systems on the network and share files. The printer is also shared as i used to print from the client pcs b4. I dont know what occured that caused this. I cant access control panel. but i can access other sysems on the network
like i sad i cant access my control panel to delete the printer and install a new one…. and this only happens on the client pcs not the pc where the printer is attached to. i cant access my control panels…
like i said it prints from the printer server, without problems,
